Xda Zinc WM6 upgrade released

If you own an XDA Zinc, head over to 02's website and download your free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade.
HTC previously announced WM6 upgrades for some of its devices for mid-June 2007 and we're the 28th and no upgrades have appeared on their website yet. I wonder why it's taking so long since they were the first to announce free WM6 upgrades during the last 3GSm conference?

Pocket PC Mauritius "Skweezed" for easy mobile access

I thought it would be nice to offer a "money saver" access to the blog through Skweezer. What is Skweezer? It's simply a free service that optimizes web pages for viewing on cellphones and PDAs. To use it, you would point your browser to www.skweezer.net Portal and type the address of the page you want to access. Skweezer even lets you create a list of favorites. The latter require free registration.
Besides being platform independent, Skweezer really helps you save money on your data plan. If you want to a fast access in an easily readable format to the blog, just save the link below to your favorites:

http://www.skweezer.net/s.aspx?q=http%3A%2F%2Fpocketpcmauritius.blogspot.com

I also added a link on the blog. It is located under Links on the right of the page.

Hide your pda under your jacket

"As a world-renowned super-spy, you've got a pile of gadgets at your disposal, but you've also got to keep your secret identity a secret. You have to be able to blend into the crowd at a moment's notice. If you were spotted with all the gear you normally carry on your hips, or sticking out of your shirt pocket, they'd single you out as easily as if you had a big red target painted on your back." If you identify yourself with the above, you definitely should grab this $50 worth Gadget Shoulder Holster. It has been designed to hold a MP3 player, a cellphone, PDAs etc, "all within quickdraw distance". Is there room for a lightsaber in there? More here.

Free: MyMobilizer to control your device with your desktop keyboard and mouse.

In the mobile world one has the choice between a thumb keyboard, a stylus and voice for data entry. There's also portable keyboards as well. I'm sure you wouldn't mind using your desktop keyboard and mouse when connected to your PC to type an email, edit a word document or, simply put, take control of your device right from your computer's screen. There are quite a few solutions out there that lets you do that and the latest I came across is MyMobilizer. I have played with it for 30 mins and while it does what it says, I noticed it was quite slow. But surely 30 mins is not enough to discover its full potential. Among its features is the ability to copy files from the device and PC. And yes, MyMobilizer is free to download. Just go to http://mymobiler.com/board/zboard.php?id=bd01.

Easy Sync 2.8 lets you copy files bigger than 100Mb

Previous versions of Easy Sync did not let you copy big files to your storage card if its size was bigger than the available main memory on the device. That was inconvenient when trying to copy a movie, for example. Version 2.8 fixes that problem and is available as a free download at http://pocketwizards.com/easysync/download.html.

Imate announces the WM5 powered Imate Jama Pocket PC Phone

Dear readers, you are most likely aware that Microsoft has changed the naming scheme of Windows Mobile devices with the release of Windows Mobile 6. For example, the Pocket PC Phone edition is now known as Windows Mobile Professional edition. You may also have noticed that the title of this post still refers to Pocket PC phone edition. This is because Imate, once a Windows Mobile major player, has announced the Jama, their latest Pocket PC phone running... Windows Mobile 5. I don't know how the marketing dept of Imate works, but it is certainly out of sync with the Windows Mobile market trend. So, dear Imate, customers are either looking for Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for their devices or getting ready to acquire such devices as the HTC Touch or the T-Mobile Wing among others.
Dear readers, check out Imate new device at http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3928&catid=20&catid=20

Tips: Save money with Opera Mini

Opera mini is one of the most popular mobile browser on the market and it is free. Besides this, if properly configured, Opera Mini can help you save money and load web pages faster. How? Simple. This will reduce webpages size by half, load faster and, of course, save money on your data plan. We would all welcome such features in Internet Explorer Mobile. Don't you think?

Tips: How to prevent Activesync from automatically synchronizing data?

By default or by design, Activesync will automatically sync any changes you make to your PC or device once connected. If your device remains connected to your PC all day, every minute or so, AS will pop up and sync. This can be quite annoying, especially if you're using your device for, say, typing an email. Synchronization will slow your device. Since there is no built-in feature to stop this behaviour, Activesync Toggle is a simple add on that will let you decide when to load Microsoft Activesync. You can download AS Toggle for free at http://micrologics.co.uk/library/ast/.

WMDC 6.1 released

As previously announced here, Microsoft has released an updated version of Windows Mobile Device Center. If you're running Windows Vista, then you might want to download it at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx. But do not rush for it yet. Even if this upgrade is to fix some bugs, it might have some of its own. Unless you're having serious issues with WMDC, I recommend you wait a bit before upgrading.

Q&A: IE Mobile cannot access intranet site

Q: I want to access my intranet website using dial up networking with
SmartPhone/ PDA / Pocket PC.

I've tried with O2 mini (windows mobile 2003), the dial up was successful but I
cannot access my intranet website using Internet Explorer Mobile. How can I fix that?

A: This is probably happening because Mobile IE is searching for the intranet
site on the internet rather than your intranet. To connect to intranet
URLs, you need to enter them as Work URL Exceptions. To do this, go to
Start - Settings - Connections - Advanced tab - Click Exceptions button.

Tap Add new URL... And
create a new URL Exception by typing the link to your intranet site.

HTC Touch - Let your fingers guide you

To counter the iPhone, HTC has announced HTC Touch running Windows Mobile 6. The device is beautiful and has been added to my to-purchase list. So sad I can't publish a picture of it. In case you did not notice, I've been publishing on the go for a while since I don't have a permanent internet access. While it's very convenient to be able to publish to the blog via a simple email, it doesn't let me insert pictures. I strongly suggest a visit to http://www.google.com/gwt/n?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.europe.htc.com%2Fproducts%2Fhtctouch.html%3Flang%3Den, to see this beautiful device.
