Q&A: Remote Desktop Client for Smartphones

Q: Does Windows Mobile 5 - Smartphone Edition include a remote desktop client?

A: Windows Mobile 5 pocket PC edition comes with a Terminal Services Client but this feature is not present in the Smartphone edition. But don't despair. Luckily, there are third party solutions out there that you can try. I came across .Net VNC viewer which works on both Pocket PC and Smartphones. VNC Viewer lets you remotely connect and control your desktop PC. Mocha Remote Client for Windows Mobile 1.2 only works on Pocket PCs.

Will the .Net VNC viewer give me a standard Remote Desktop Connection from an AT&T Palm Treo 750 with WIN Mobile 5 into WIN XP Pro and WIN Vista Home Premium as I get from desktop to desktop? Thanks, Les leshammondpsf@yahoo.com

Another remote desktop solution that enables Remote PC Control from phones with 3G capabilities is RHUB’s http://www.rhubcom.com TurboMeeting. You can also join web conferencing via your phones, from anywhere, anytime.

Third party solutions for remote desktop software should actually be the first place you turn when dealing with Windows as an alternative. If you have even the slightest bit of luck making these connections work, you are a greater (or, luckier) man than I.
