If you get the error mentioned in the title above while sending a text/SMS/E-mail message, do the following:
Open Messaging.
Click Menu > Options.
Click Address tab.
"In Contacts, get e-mail addresses from:" drop down list, select "All e-mail fields"

I already had [all email fields] selected and still get this when composing new sms :(
Check your message center settings. Sometimes, just opening the settings window solves that problem.
