Dell stops selling Axim handheld

Dell announced today (yes was a big day for announcements) that it will no longer be releasing the Axim handheld. "The Axim X51 family is no longer being offered, and we have no plans for a follow-on product at this time," Dell spokeswoman Anne Camden said in an e-mail. Camden noted that the company does sell handhelds from other makers on its Web site, including GPS devices and smart phones. More available here...

I have a Dell Axim and when I got it was the first the first with a 624mhz processor and a decent amount of ram. However Dell were being cornie and didn't want to upgrade Axim buyers to pocket pc 5.0, even though 5.0 had just come out the week I bought it. There was a major petition on line for this with tons of users signing up but I don't think anything happened. The Axim has been pretty reliable and was well priced.

i did some digging on this to find out more, according to a company source its a change in corporate stratergy to move away from the handheld line due to the increase in other market competitors and the new lines coming out. I guess the R and D costs probably out weigh the return.

Yea Dell is taking a beating, displaced as by HP, Micheal Dell back, total corporate reshuffle. I still have a lot of dells though and they've always been reliable for me.

Apple iphone coming out here in the US first for once! ipod nano froze today it's the new one can't get it to reboot either. As apple grows the quality control will crack. I have one free upgrade with cingular (network it's coming out on) so I'll prolly get the phone and then sell it lol. Should've done that with the PS3.
