If you ever encounter this error when trying to install Activesync 4.5, downloading the latest version of Windows Installer will fix it. Windows Installer 3.1 is the latest version that can be downloaded free from Microsoft website. Install Windows Installer and run Activesync setup again.

In general, not just for the Activesync install, you may encounter programs that use Windows Installer that will not install correctly and the installer will either just simply close or give you some sort of error message. In that event, the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility can resolve the issue. Just search for it at microsoft.com/downloads
