A message from Palm to its customers, partners, developers: Cancels Foleo.

Ed Colligan, Palm's CEO, has posted a message to Palm's community announcing the company's decision to cancel the Foleo Mobile Companion "in its current configuration". Palm has decided to focus on building one flexible platform "to offer a single, consistent user experince". The company will still continue its partnership with Microsoft on the Windows Mobile platform. The Engadget folks must be happy. Read more at http://blog.palm.com/palm/2007/09/a-message-to-pa.html.

Palm has steadily gone downhill in recent years. The last Palm I got was the TX. It was very poorly constructed, lasting only 9 months before the touchscreen crapped out in a spot. Palm refused to honor the warranty. That was the last straw. The OS is horrible in terms of reliability. I got a WM5 PDA and have been very happy. In terms of datebook and agenda features, nobody beats Palms product.

WM5 is lackluster in this respect. But the OS is *much* more stable and extendable. I owned Palms for years, starting with the m500. That was a phenominal product for its time.

The Zire line was a major poop line. Just awful. The TX promised to be a great prduct, but there have been countless reports of screen problems like mine.

I think of the Palm OS like MacOS 7 or 8: a superior interface ontop of a shoddy engine.

Unfortunately if Palm continues to cut corners on hardware, not even a solid OS will save them.
